Facts and Fiction of QDROs and Ways They Can be used Within The Collaborative Model Qualified Domestic Relations Order presented by Diane C Pappas, CDFA®, CQS™

The QDRO is more than just a tool for dividing a private employer-sponsored retirement plan as a marital asset.  Especially within the Collaborative Law model, it can be used to help solve a variety of financial issues like support, collateralizing debt and payment of attorney’s fees, but it has to be done right and early on in the process to prevent complications later on.

We will also take a look at the facts and fiction that often surround the QDRO document and the process.  As a newly minted Certified QDRO Specialist (CQS™), Diane has uncovered many misconceptions in the way things have been done in the past.  Learn the real story behind valuation dates, gains/losses, equalizing several retirement accounts, distributions, impact of loans, pre-marital portions and third party QDRO administrators like Fidelity and Hewitt.
