The Power of Questions: Inquiry with Impact

So often, questions are asked to confirm an assumption, to challenge, or to convince. But what would happen if we asked questions that encourage clients to truly learn about one another and their own deepest interests? Questions and the way they are asked have the potential to transform your clients’ interactions, informing how they approach, view, and engage with others, particularly those with whom they deeply disagree.

For twenty-five years, Public Conversations Project has fostered constructive conversation where there is conflict driven by differences in identity, beliefs, and values. They work locally, nationally, and globally to provide dialogue facilitation, training, consultation, and coaching.  We are excited to work with senior practitioners at Public Conversations to deliver a workshop designed to enhance the work of Massachusetts Collaborative Law Council members. In this workshop, you'll harness the power of questions to invite understanding and connections between the asked and the asker.

In this workshop, you will learn to:

  • Craft questions of curiosity in a way that elicits fresh, productive responses, particularly in stuck or divided conversations.
  • Effectively avoid questions that close down a conversation during difficult sessions in your collaborative law practice.
  • Develop greater internal awareness around the effects of questions on the perceptions, emotions, and relationships of your clients
  • Support participants’ own curiosity and shift to an inquiring stance.
